Frank Pepe opened his pizzeria here in 1925 after years of selling tomato pies from a wagon in the Wooster Square market, and this New Haven landmark has been firing coal-fired apizza ever since. The original 1925 oven — the one that started it all — still burns next door at The Spot, an annex that Frank Pepe's family reclaimed in 1981.
